En route, however, you are to make two stops. The first stop is at a café. There you can purchase refreshments as well as use the bathroom. The second stop is at a small factory where you can see the production of a local plant oil called argan. It is great for the skin and hair. Going from the café to the small factory, hopefully at some point you will see goats standing on the top of trees. They are often, but not always, there. You should be inside the town of Essaouira around 11:30am. Walk through the alleys of the medina and view hundreds of handicrafts. This “City of the Wind” attracts surfers from all over the world. Essaouira knew many civilisations – including the Portuguese occupation, which affects much of its architecture – however, it remains a small village with much history. Because of its size and its characteristic blue doors and washed walls, it is also regarded as Morocco’s “Jewel of the Atlantic”. Lunch will be free in the medina or in the port.
